The Wide Applications Of Bridge Gantry Cranes

When using a gantry crane, one that is either outside or inside, there are many applications for using this device. These are typically enormous, capable of lifting several hundred tons, or as little as 1000 pounds. They are designed not only lifting using the hoist and trolley, but they are also designed for moving merchandise from one location to another. If you are having a bridge gantry crane installed, also called an overhead crane, you can find these and fabrication shops where automobiles are assembled, and also in areas where buildings are being constructed, showing the wide application range for these bridge gantry cranes.

The Popularity Of Top Running Bridge Cranes

A very common place to find favorite gantry cranes is when you are going into a warehouse facility. You will see them up above, moving back and forth. If you see a single girder bridge crane, they typically lift up to 15 tons with the maximum span of about 60 feet. Single girder bridge cranes can easily lift 10 to 15 tons whereas double girder top running overhead cranes can go up to 20 tons. The larger the crane, the more that the operator will be able to lift which can actually contribute to higher production levels. The reason that the running bridge cranes are so popular is that it allows the merchandise to be not only lifted, but transitioned from one area of the facility to another. This will diminish the possibility of workers getting hurt that would otherwise have to manually move the merchandise using forklifts and other means.

Other Applications For Bridge Gantry Cranes

Some of the largest ones in the world are used at shipping docks, but they are most commonly used in the refinement of steel. You may go to a facility where metals such as aluminum or copper are being refined where the molten material cannot be in the presence of actual people, nor could it be lifted due to the incredible weight. They are used for the manufacturing process of not only metal, but with workstations where jib cranes are used, very common at a sawmill or any type of facility where large objects must be moved.

The installation process can take anywhere from a couple weeks to a month, depending upon their size. It also depends on how complex the crane actually is. If it is a single girder crane, or one with double girders, this can change the installation time quite a bit, especially when extra supporting beams need to be put in place if it cannot use the supporting structure of the building that it will be in. Other things to consider are the runway rails, trolley frames, and the type of hoist that is used on one of these cranes. They are designed to lift large amounts of weight, and in the case of those used within a facility, they must be able to move merchandise to specific locations to accelerate productivity at the workplace.
